​Charge Conference Minutes


                                                                       NEW MILFORD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH LEADERSHIP
                                                                                        January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017
 
It is important that the entire congregation of the New Milford United Methodist Church have a knowledge of their leadership. The leadership consists of the Pastor and the various councils and committees. To facilitate any items that the congregation may wish to bring forward, the Committees and their members are listed here. You may contact any member of a committee to discuss concerns and all committee meetings (with the exception of SPR) are open to the congregation.
 
CHURCH COUNCIL
The Council acts as the executive agency to coordinate the vision and ministry of the church with all the formed committees. The members include the Pastor, the Chair, Lay Leaders, Committee chairs of SPR, Finance, Board of Trustees, Church Treasurer, Lay member to annual conference, Presidents of United Methodist Men/Women, Sunday School Superintendent, Coordinators, a young adult and a member of United Methodist youth.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Board is responsible to bring any recommendations from the Congregation to the Church Council. It is empowered to spend budgeted money and consults with Finance and the Church Treasurer before committing unbudgeted funds.
 
Members: Mike Hopp (Chair), Bill O'Rourke, Dawn Hough, Pam Butler, Rob Didato, Robert O'Rourke, Larry Tripp, Steve Kolitz, Terry Singleton.     
 
STAFF PARISH RELATIONS COMMITTEE
Committee is closed to the congregation. This committee is the church's Human Resource equivalent as it deals with all staff related issues. It also performs annual evaluations on all church employees and recommends compensation.
 
Members: Carol Muska (Chair), Harold Jacobson, Dave Kullgren, Art Putnam, Jen Burns, Kay Jones.
 
ANNUAL CONFERENCE DELEGATES
These individuals represent the congregation to the annual conference and interpret the work of the annual conference and the global United Methodist Church to the congregation.

LAY LEADERS
The Lay Leader works with the pastor to fulfill the mission and vision of the congregation.

EDUCATION CENTER BOARD OF DIRECTORS
This body oversees the ongoing work of the New Milford UMC Child Education Center and its staff. It develops its budget and presents to Finance and the Church Council for approval. Evaluations are internal except for the Director position which is handled by SPR since the position is employed by the Church.
 
Members: Heather Morin (Chair), Jenn Middleton, Loretta Gentile, Marlene Davis, Anne Meehan, Jane Walsh, Courtney Karp, Kelly O'Rourke, Sue Perry.
     
FINANCE COMMITTEE
This committee generates all financial reports to the congregation and Church Treasurer. It completes an annual budget for supporting the mission and vision of the church. It also recommends any changes to the approved budget, develops and carries out plans to raise income to support the budget, recommends proper depositories for church funds, follows procedures for the church treasurer and arranges annual audits. The Church Treasurer is responsible for disbursement of all monies contributed to the local church budget.

Members of the Finance Committee per the Book of Discipline include: The Pastor, Lay Leaders, Church Council Chair, SPR Chair, Trustees Chair, Stewardship Chair, Lay Members to annual Conf., Church Treasurer, and the Church Business Administrator (non-voting).
 
NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE
This committee leads and teaches the congregation God's plan for using the gifts, skills and experience that already exist in order to accomplish the mission God has for the congregation. It invites people to positions of spiritual leadership, receives their responses and presents a nominations list to the Charge/Church Conference for approval.

STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE
This committee is responsible for the development and execution of the program for the annual giving by the congregation toward the annual church budget. The committee provides ongoing support and maintenance for the giving program. 
 
Members: Dave Kullgren (Chair), Heather Morin, Martha McMahon,Chris Prause, Angie Chastain (ex officio).
 
WORSHIP/ ALTER GUILD COORDINATION
This committee is responsible for the weekly sanctuary environment and encourages a team approach to worship planning led by the Pastor. It supports worship by identifying, training and supporting worship leaders such as acolytes, scripture readers, ushers, greeters and others.

MISSIONS TEAM
This committee leads the congregation’s service and mission opportunities by planning mission and service opportunities for people of all ages and all stages of faith.

This committee leads the congregation in reaching out to people with the good news of Jesus Christ and receives people into the congregation so they might develop a relationship with God in a Christian community.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE COMMITTEE

BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE
This committee accepts, records and deposits monies donated to the church in memory of loved ones.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
This committee raises funds and distributes scholarship money to the youth of the church.

MEMORIAL GARDEN COMMITTEE
Has responsibility for the care and maintenance of the memorial garden including the purchase of memorial stones for engraving.
